Information is everywhere. Many organizations are utilizing wireless services to provide information access from new places using new methods. Traditionally remote information access meant extending the network to include access from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). As organizations began connecting to the Internet this concept of extending the network edge incorporated remote access using Virtual Private Networks and encrypted tunnels.

Today organizations can have multiple methods of providing information access to remote users. These users may only be as remote as the distance between the service connection point (a local 802.11a/g/n access point; the nearest EV-DO, HSDPA/GPRS or 1X/WCDMA tower; a remote hot spot wireless service or Internet cafe) or roaming on a data service in another country. All of these solutions are compelling in that they extend organizations and businesses to be globally accessible around the clock. While these solutions are compelling the question should always be asked: "Are risks being managed or introduced?" in these solutions.
